Strong Fathers, Strong Communities

A host of systemic challenges confront young fathers. The Dovetail Project is dedicated to providing young fathers – ages 17 to 24 – with the skills and resources they need to be supportive fathers and leaders in their communities. Dovetail’s 12-week program helps young fathers who are not connected in work or school to gain a better understanding of the responsibilities of fatherhood and their importance in the lives of their children, while strengthening the community in the process.

Our investment

At a nascent stage of Dovetail’s development, Chicago Beyond invested $1 million in The Dovetail Project, allowing them to expand their program and assess its effectiveness. As a result of our partnership, Dovetail served hundreds of young fathers, doubling their reach and paving the way for their organization’s national recognition.

Our Philosophy

Chicago Beyond amplifies the impact of solutions driven by those closest to the issues. We aim to notice, relate, and work differently, both as a funder and as a partner to those we invest in. By consistently applying these practices, we recenter humanity in philanthropy and all that we do.
