Keeping Families Together

Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. (YAP) is a social justice nonprofit that provides community-based alternatives to youth incarceration, congregate placements, and neighborhood violence. By delivering and advocating for safe and effective community-based alternatives to residential care and incarceration, YAP empowers individuals and families to thrive as healthy, well-rounded, and fully-engaged members of their communities.

Our Investment

Chicago Beyond’s $5.2 million investment in YAP enabled the organization to expand comprehensive wrap around services for 400 young people, realizing its full vision for programming, as well as evaluate the efficacy of its model for future growth. YAP has continued to expand its national reach and today serves over 19,000 young people.

Our Philosophy

Chicago Beyond amplifies the impact of solutions driven by those closest to the issues. We aim to notice, relate, and work differently, both as a funder and as a partner to those we invest in. By consistently applying these practices, we recenter humanity in philanthropy and all that we do.
