Holistic Support for Youth Involved in the Legal System
Lawndale Christian Legal Center (LCLC) provides community-based legal and social services to minors and emerging adults at every step of the juvenile and adult criminal justice system. LCLC recognizes equitable legal defense for youth requires a holistic support system, from lawyers, case managers, and street outreach staff, to wraparound supports from community partners. LCLC’s innovative model helps put young people directly impacted by the justice system on a pathway to success.
Our Investment
Chicago Beyond’s $1.7 million investment in LCLC supported the organization’s efforts to expand services in North Lawndale and to learn more about their model’s impact. LCLC has grown its young people served by more than 50%. In 2021, LCLC’s holistic criminal legal defense model has expanded to multiple neighborhoods, securing public and private resources to support holistic criminal legal defense.
