Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services

Healthy Indigenous Communities

Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services’ mission is for healthy Indigenous babies to be born into healthy Indigenous families supported by healthy Indigenous communities. Founded in 2019, Hummingbird is the only Indigenous agency in the King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties of Washington State to exclusively serve Indigenous babies and families from zero to three. Hummingbird provides full-spectrum doula programs, guaranteed basic income, storytelling, and family connection supports to Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Island communities.

Our Investment

Chicago Beyond’s $1 million investment supports Hummingbird’s strategic growth plan to increase access to culturally congruent maternal healthcare, improve representation in the maternal health workforce, and improve access to comprehensive, wraparound services for women and families. Drawing on a proven model of care and community trust, Hummingbird is now scaling its capacity to meet rising demand, deepen outcomes, and influence systems beyond its current geography.

Our Philosophy

Chicago Beyond amplifies the impact of solutions driven by those closest to the issues. We aim to notice, relate, and work differently, both as a funder and as a partner to those we invest in. By consistently applying these practices, we recenter humanity in philanthropy and all that we do.
