THIS IS ABOUTINVESTING INJUSTICE
We invest in organizations, community leaders, and equitable research opportunities that are positioned to change the lives of young people in Chicago.
Whether it’s an idea in its early stages, or an organization at a critical inflection point, we design tailored plans that fit their unique goals and grow their impact.
Our approach is holistic — we invest in everything from education, to youth safety, to community development, to health, wellness, and beyond. This is important because there is no single barrier to equity.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
Chicago Beyond’s Impact Philosophy How, and to what degree, do our actions help ensure that all young people, regardless of their zip code, have the opportunity to achieve their fullest human potential?
HOW WE DO WHAT WE DO
The Chicago Beyond Partnership Model combines social capital, thought partnership and mutual actualization to drive for a more equitable future. Bonding social capital and Learning is at the core of all our work.
HOW TO PARTNER
We believe there is no single barrier to equity, thus our strategy takes a holistic approach and we invest in diverse ideas that reflect a broad range of issue areas. We recognize that the broader ecosystem and its historical foundations of structural racism, power, and privilege have dramatically impeded the lives and life outcomes of young people. Rather than asking “what does a young person need to do differently?” we seek to influence change in the ecosystem in order to help youth reach their fullest potential.
We focus on impacting systems and supporting early-stage and maturing organizations that have not gained substantial financial backing (in relation to the scope of idea) or have limited access to resources. Accordingly, we seek investments that drive change at two key levels:
- Direct Youth and Community – Organizations, people, and ideas that address the immediate and acute needs of youth and provide pathways to help youth reach their fullest potential
- Systems level – Organizations, people, and ideas that influence the overarching beliefs, ideologies, behaviors and practices that undergird, enable, or reinforce systemic inequity to help youth reach their fullest potential
Our process for investing is not about evaluating ideas or checking boxes. Instead, we seek to understand the potential of a partnership and what we can do together in service of youth knowing that we will both learn and deepen our impact from it.
We invest in organizations fighting to promote a more equitable future for young people in Chicago across a variety of issues. First, we provide multi-year transformative funding that allows our partners to take their ideas and operations to the next level. Then, we work side-by-side with them as they chart their future to grow their impact. We also support our partners’ learning research projects, providing the insights and knowledge necessary to fight for youth equity in the most impactful ways possible.
